Schroeder earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Minnesota in 1961 and a Juris Doctor degree from Harvard Law School in 1964.

Schroeder served in the U.S. House of Representatives from Colorado from 1973 to 1997, representing the state’s first congressional district.

She was the first woman elected to Congress from Colorado and was a prominent advocate for women’s rights during her time in office.

Schroeder co-founded the Congressional Women’s Caucus and was the first woman to serve on the House Armed Services Committee.
