A newborn baby has miraculously survived being thrown from a bridge into a river inside a rucksack.
On the morning of November 17, witnesses told Military Police that they saw a man throw a rucksack into the Capibaribe River in Sao Lourenco da Mata, Brazil.
After seeing the bag crash into the river and hearing the baby’s cries, two fishermen beneath the bridge rescued the infant.
Pedro, one of the fishermen, stated that his companion “grabbed the rod, picked up the bag, and handed it to me.”
‘When I opened it, it was a child.
‘I cried.
The two men immediately called Military Police, who took the baby to a nearby maternity hospital.
The infant had reportedly been born only hours earlier, and the umbilical cord cut ‘unprofessionally’.
Health officials said the girl’s condition is stable and she remains under observation at the hospital.
Abortion is illegal in Brazil, with penalties ranging from one to three years in prison, though there are some exceptions.
While legislation has been enacted to make the process of giving up a child for adoption easier, there are still obstacles for new parents.
The biker is still at large as of this writing.
