 L.Q.Jones was born August 19, 1927, in Beaumont, in southeastern Texas, the son of Jessie Paralee née Stephens, and Justus Ellis McQueen Sr., a railroad worker.

His mother died in a hospital, after a car accident, in 1931. citation needed After serving in the United States Navy from 1945 to 1946, Jones attended Lamar Junior College and Lon Morris College in Jacksonville, Texas, and then studied law at the University of Texas at Austin from 1950 to 1951.

He worked as a stand-up comic, briefly played professional baseball and football, and even tried ranching in Nicaragua, before turning to act after corresponding with his former college roommate, Fess Parker.

At the time, in 1954, Parker was already in Hollywood working in films and on television. Jones is a practicing Methodist and a registered Republican. citation needed

Who is Jessie Paralee McQueen

Mrs. J.E. McQueen, 34, died at a hospital here Wednesday night of injuries suffered in an automobile collision last Sunday.

She had never regained consciousness since the crash. Surviving is her husband and a small son, J.E. McQueen, Jr., who suffered minor injuries in the accident that claimed the woman’s life. The funeral will be held Friday afternoon from the Roberts parlors.

Jessie Paralee Stephens is listed on the 1910 Precinct 3, Lometa, Lampasas County, Texas, census as 13 years old, living with her grandparents, John Nicholas and Sophia Matilda McBurnett.
