Joshua Brereton: Man gets 5-year prison term in Planned Parenthood fire
A man who was inspired by a church sermon to set fires at a Planned Parenthood clinic in southwestern Michigan was sentenced Monday to five years in prison.

“He committed this offense impulsively after hearing a church sermon about’making a difference.’… “In retrospect, Joshua looks at himself with great regret every day,” defense attorney Donald Smith said in a court filing.

The mandatory minimum under federal law is five years in prison, according to U.S. District Judge Paul Maloney.

Prosecutors said Brereton set three separate fires on the outside of the building, totaling about $33,000 in clinic repairs and lost income.

“While Americans may strongly disagree on matters of law and policy, violence is never an acceptable means of resolving our differences,” said U.S. Attorney Mark Totten.
