Jerry Springer: A former American broadcaster, journalist, actor, and producer, died at the age of 79

Jerry Springer, one of the most powerful and controversial people in television history, has died, according to TMZ.

Jerry Springer hosted the blockbuster hit syndicated talk show “The Jerry Springer Show” for 27 years… and there was never a dull moment on the loud and chaotic show — which was known for its outrageous guests who generally got into spectacular fights as the crowd screamed, “Jerry, Jerry, Jerry, Jerry!”

According to a family representative, Jerry had a “brief illness.” According to our sources, he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer a few months ago, and this week he began to deteriorate.

Prior to television, he was a politician who filed a failed candidacy for U.S. Congress in 1970, was elected to Cincinnati’s City Council in 1971… and was elected mayor in 1977. He only served one term.

Springer, on the other hand, became a worldwide hit with his show… which premiered in 1991. Most people won’t remember this, but Jerry’s show was initially centered on political concerns. Of course, it ended up being the polar opposite… and a ratings blockbuster.

Jerry’s show was so popular in the late ’90s, it even topped Oprah Winfrey‘s in several cities. ‘Springer’ finally went off the air in 2018.

He made one more run in TV, with his courtroom show, “Judge Jerry,” which ran for 3 seasons.Jerry’s most recent television performance was on “The Masked Singer” last season, where he appeared as “The Beetle,” singing a Frank Sinatra classic.

We’re told his cancer struggle worsened approximately a month ago, and he had to stop working. He was hosting a folk music show on a Cincinnati radio station.

He is survived by his daughter Katie Springer and his older sister Evelyn.
