During an interview with CNN, the tycoon did not reveal which charities he will donate to, how much he will donate, or when.

The businessman, who is seated with his partner Lauren Sanchez, stated that they are ‘building the capacity to be able to give away this money.’

Bezos confirmed that he will donate most of his wealth during his lifetime, saying: ‘The hard part is figuring out how to do it in a levered way. It’s not easy, building Amazon was not easy.

‘It took a lot of hard work, a bunch of very smart teammates and I’m finding that philanthropy is very similar – it’s not easy it’s very hard.

The tycoon also revealed that he handed out a $100million award to singer Dolly Parton for her ‘love and compassion in work’

‘We are building the capacity to being able to give away this money. There are a bunch of ways that I think you could do ineffective things, too.

‘So you have to think about it carefully and you have to have brilliant people on the team.’

Previously, Bezos was chastised for not signing the Giving Pledge, which commits hundreds of the world’s wealthiest people to donating the majority of their fortunes to charitable causes.

The world’s fourth-richest man refused to say how much he would give away or where the money would be spent.

He has avoided setting a target amount to give away in his lifetime, instead committing $10 billion over ten years, or roughly 8% of his current net worth, to the Bezos Earth Fund.

Bezos also explained why he handed Dolly Parton $100 million for her ‘love and compassion in work’.

He said: ‘Look at what she’s done and how she’s led her life. The way she’s done it  is by doing bold things, always with civility and kindness.

‘She’s a unifier, we have big problems in the world and the wya big problems are dealt with is you have to work together.’

Sanchez added: ‘When you think of Dolly, everyone smiles. All she wants to do is bring light into other people’s world.

‘That’s all, and so we couldn’t have thought of someone better than to give this award to.’

His approach is drastically different to that of his ex-wife, MacKenzie Scott, who gave away nearly $4billion to 465 organizations in less than a year.
