Williams have appointed former Mercedes strategy director James Vowles as their new team principal ahead of the 2023 Formula 1 season.
Vowles succeeds Jost Capito, who stepped down as Williams CEO and Team Principal in December after two years in charge.
The 43-year-old will formally join Williams on February 20 after being released from his contract with Mercedes, with whom he won eight constructors’ titles since joining the team in 2010.
“I can’t wait to get started with Williams Racing,” stated Vowles.
“It’s an honor to be a part of a team with such a rich history. The team is an icon of our sport, one that I strongly admire, and I am looking forward to the task.”
Join us in saying a huge welcome to our new Team Principal! 🤩
We are delighted to announce that James Vowles is coming onboard to lead the team. We’re looking forward to him joining our journey from 20th Feb! 👋

Williams has yet to name a replacement for technical director Francois-Xavier Demaison, who left the team in December.
The British team has already set a February 6 launch date for its 2023 car, which will be piloted by Logan Sargeant, an American rookie who has joined the squad to partner Alex Albon.
Pre-season testing takes place in Bahrain from February 23 to 25, with the season’s first Grand Prix taking place on March 5 at the same location.
