Ian Blackford born 14 May 1961 is a Scottish politician who served as Leader of the Scottish National Party (SNP) in the House of Commons from 2017 to 2022.
He has been the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ross, Skye, and Lochaber since 2015.
Originally from Edinburgh, he previously worked as an investment banker and has been involved in various business ventures since. He was the national treasurer of the SNP from 1999 to 2000.
Blackford has been the SNP Westminster Leader since Angus Robertson lost his seat at the 2017 snap general election.
Since becoming leader of the SNP at Westminster, Blackford has had a weekly slot at Prime Minister’s Questions which he has used to quiz Conservative Prime Ministers Theresa May, Boris Johnson, Liz Truss, and Rishi Sunak on the issues of the day.
He announced his intention to stand down from the role on 1 December 2022.
