The mother-of-one appeared in court today, wearing a black jumper, and admitted manslaughter but denied murder on the grounds of diminished responsibility.

Her attorneys will argue that she was mentally ill when she murdered her mother.

Prosecutor Joel Smith had previously told the court that Hanaa Bennis had a “volatile relationship” with her mother.

Neighbors reported hearing’screams and sounds of a disturbance’ coming from the address, with Aziza Bennis pleading, ‘Please don’t hurt me!’

Mr Smith told the court that Hanaa Bennis could be heard saying, ‘I’m sorry, I’m sorry,’ at one point.

According to the court, police discovered the victim collapsed in the lounge and recovered a blood-stained knife.

Despite their best efforts, the mother-of-two died at the scene. A post-mortem examination revealed that multiple stab injuries were the cause of death. According to the court, police discovered a video of the scene of the killing on Hanaa’s phone.

‘She pans the camera around the lounge, revealing her mother, who is covered in blood. ‘She then shows the camera the blood-stained knife,’ Mr Smith explained.

Hanaa Bennis, of Ealing, was remanded in custody pending her two-week trial at the Old Bailey, which begins on July 31.
