David Attenborough’s parents were Frederick Attenborough and Mary Attenborough (née Clegg). Frederick was a university lecturer in English and Principal of the University College, Leicester, and Mary was a founding member of the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force.

David had two younger brothers, Richard and John, who were also well-known figures in their respective fields: Richard was an actor and director, and John was an executive at the Alfa Romeo car company.

David has credited his parents with instilling in him a love and curiosity for the natural world from an early age, and he has spoken about their support and encouragement throughout his career.
