A police officer who was kneed in the groin by EastEnders star Jessie Wallace has resigned after feeling ‘unsupported and exposed’ after being given a caution, it was revealed last night.
The officer, who was allegedly assaulted by the inebriated actress last year, reportedly left Suffolk Police after six years due to a lack of support from his colleagues.
An anonymous source told The Sun that the man in question believed the star, best known for playing Kat Slater in the BBC soap, ‘got away with it because she’s famous’.
‘The PC would rather she had gone through court and been held accountable — even if she walked free with no conditions — at least justice would have been served,’ they added.
Footage emerged last year showing the moment that Wallace was arrested following a night out, with some witnesses claiming she was kicked out of a nightclub for being ‘gobby’.
As well as kneeing an officer, it was alleged that the actress also said ‘f*** off you fat c***’, before being placed into a police van.
At the time, a witness said Wallace was ‘out of control’ with ‘truly shocking behaviour’.
Another said: ‘She was acting very drunken disorderly, assaulting police officers and swearing constantly.
‘She then went on to shout out, “I hope this is all entertainment for you c***s”, whilst barging through the middle of our group. She then ended up banging on the door of the police wagon she was in.
‘Bouncers had chucked her out due to how gobby and annoying she was being to others.’
In Bury St Edmunds, the 51-year-old was arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer as well as drunk and disorderly conduct.
Wallace was reportedly given 16 weeks to write an apology letter to the officer after being cautioned without charge for the alleged assault.
However, the soap star was said to have missed both this and the next deadline that was set for her.
The BBC also issued Wallace a “clear warning” about the incident.
‘Senior management have spoken to Jessie Wallace about the incident and issued a clear warning that this type of behavior is unacceptable,’ a spokesman previously told MailOnline. Jessie expressed her heartfelt regret.’
Wallace’s run-in with the law, however, is not his first. In 2003, she was banned from driving for three years and fined £1,000 for drink driving.
In March of last year, police stopped the then 32-year-old in Chelmsford, Essex, after she was caught speeding in her £32,000 silver Mercedes.
She exceeded the legal limit by one and a half times, with tests revealing 51mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 35 years old.
Her second drink-driving offense resulted in a three-year ban.
Wallace was also caught on camera in 2017 launching an expletive-laden tirade after allegedly being kicked out of a pub.
The soap star and a friend were seen on video at the Old Eagle in Camden, north London, shouting ‘f**** you’ at a man who had accused her of causing a disturbance inside.
Wallace was also suspended from EastEnders by the BBC in early 2020, with a two-month suspension imposed due to a ‘incident while filming’.
It was reported that she was summoned to a meeting with show executives, who told her to’sort herself out’ before returning.
