A street racer, identified as Brandon Turton has killed a schoolgirl while driving at the speed of 93mph in an attempt to impress a lady passenger.
21-year-old Brandon Turton sped down a residential street in St. Helens, Merseyside, in convoy with another car when he crashed into Courtney Ellis, 14 leading to her death on the spot.
Courtney, from Haydock, died instantly after being hit by the Renault Megane on Blackbrook Road shortly after 9.45pm on 19 September, 2020.
Oliver McIntosh was driving a silver Vauxhall Astra when Turton, who had been exploring the area “simply for something to do,” ran into him in the Tesco parking lot in Haydock.
The two cars “took off in convoy” and conducted a high-speed circle of local roads in the 15 minutes prior to the collision while “competing with each other,” Liverpool Crown Court heard.
During their high-speed pursuit, both drivers narrowly avoided colliding with oncoming traffic. Turton’s passengers “repeatedly implored him to calm down,” and one of them afterward referred to his driving as “terrible.”
Another stated that they were being “thrown around the car” as Turton took corners and roundabouts at speed and overtook other vehicles.
