Austin and Vanessa had everyone convinced that true love does exist. The pair dated for almost 9 years and they really did seem inseparable. However, things did not go as planned. In 2020, the couple confirmed their split, and now a year later, it’s revealed that they are seeing other people.

Vanessa Hudgens and Austin Butler were first spotted together less than a year after their separation from Zac Efron (and amid allegations that she was dating Josh Hutcherson). Hudgens and Butler reportedly met through Hudgens’ BFF, Ashley Tisdale, who co-starred with Butler in Butler’s High School Musical sequel, Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventure, and it wasn’t long before they were photographed hanging out at Tisdale’s sister’s birthday party in Hollywood in September 2011.

After all those years, there was never an engagement
The pressure was on by the time 2017 arrived: fans wanted to know when Vanessa Hudgens and Austin Butler would tie the knot. Why wouldn’t the rumors be everywhere after Hudgens and Butler had been together for so long and appeared so in love?
Hudgens was forced to take to Twitter to dispel those rumors after she was seen wearing a ring on that finger toward the end of the year because apparently, a sparkly diamond ring on her left hand didn’t always mean she’d said yes to a marriage proposal from her longtime boo… even though many of her fans obviously thought it did.

While the pair never issued an official statement explaining the cause for their breakup, a source close to the couple told E! that their hectic schedules were the reason for their breakup.
“They’re merely shooting on two separate continents and it’s an issue of distance,” the person added. There is no ill will between them, and they have a great deal of regard for one another.”
Austin was working on Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis Presley biography at the time of their breakup. Vanessa and Austin had been together since 2011, thus their breakup came as a shock to many.
In January 2020, the couple announced their separation. Many people believed there was a chance for reconciliation. Things, though, appear to be different now.
